New User - Not sure if can configure digiCam to do what I want.

First thanks for any advice as I have just discovered this software. I could not find posts describing what I want to do so...
A bit of background.
A few months ago I met this guy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinz_St%C3%BCcke
who is now 77 and agreed to try and help him with organising his slide collection. He has no money to pay an agency to do it.
Whilst I have a high quality scanner it would take far too long to scan his 100k slides. He might be dead before the volunteer team complete the job!
But he has a projector and I have an old Canon G9. so I have this idea that digiCamcontrol could bridge the gap. But how?
How would I trigger slide load on the projector from a PC, wait say 1 second for the slide to settle, take a photo down the throat of the projector lens and then wait say 4 seconds for the picture to be saved. In my head its easy but...
I hope that I have explained the problem in enough detail and would appreciate the experience of other posters who have probably done the same kind of job.
