Focus Stacking with D800

Post by FOTIX » Sun Apr 21, 2013 5:53 pm

I am using a D800. Using the focus stacking feature, everything works properly in the testmode. Starting the captures results in following behaviour: the camera leaves the LV-Mode takes a picture, goes back to LV and changes the focus and so on. Sometimes the operation freezes after a couple of pictures. Is it possible to program the feature in a way, that LV-Mode will be kept during the whole operation. The D800 should be capable this.

focus stacking with d800

Post by crabantou » Tue May 28, 2013 1:14 am

Hi all,

When I try focus stacking (D800-XP SP3), D800 takes the first shot ... and wait endlessly until I press "freeze image". Then the second is taken ... and freeze. I have to press again "freeze image" and so on.

A fix ?

Thanks for help

Focus Stacking with D800

Post by crabantou » Wed May 29, 2013 7:43 pm

Thank you very much for the improvement.
Now, the shots are taken in one stroke, but without changing the focus.

In fact, manual focus do not work. Nothing happens when I click the "<", "<<" etc.

I made as in the tutorial : click autofocus on the nearest, then click on the left padlock, autofocus on the farther ... and nothing to be done, the right padlock is unavailable, no click possible.

Thanks for help. (... again !)

Focus Stacking with D800L

Sorry, if I do in right order (farther first) it works ... if after auto AF on the farther, I come to the nearest by manual focus. I f I do AF on the nearest, I get a range of 0.

But the fusion of the images failed.

Thank again.

Hi, to work with focus

Post by Duka Istvan » Thu May 30, 2013 11:12 am

Hi, to work with focus staking first you should lock the beginning and the end of focus area using buttons next to |< and  >| and searching for area should done by manual controls (>,>> ...) not with the Auto focus button.

Focus Stacking with D800

Hi,

So it's the right way.

The last point is enfuse fails in stacking the pictures, the message "something is wrong", but it is'nt perhaps for you, rather for enfuse author.

I installed combine ZP wich works, but not recognized by digicamcontrol. Perhaps digicamcontrol must be installed afterwards ?

Thank you, and I go for a donation.

Focus Stacking w/D7000

Post by jrmcmillan » Wed Jun 05, 2013 7:02 pm

I've uploaded v1.0.547 and can confirm that focus stacking works perfectly with my setup (D7000, 50mm f1.8G, Win7). I might suggest updating the manual to include the fact that the focus end-points need to be defined in the manual focusing dropdown to use focus stacking.

This is a really awesome program. While I haven't exercised all the features yet, it is working perfectly for me! Wonderful job!
