Taking pictures with D5300 Nikon over WIFI - blank files come back to PC

Post by maxi » Wed Aug 29, 2018 4:58 am

Got D5300, using it with digicamcontrol over WIFI. LIVE VIEW works fine, WIFI connection works, can play with a focus remotely. Looks great.

After taking a snapshop, it loads the picture onto PC, showing a progress bar, but it turns out to be a blank file on PC at the end.

I tried USB cable, same setup, and all worked fine. I am getting the pictures back onto PC over USB. But I am getting blank .jpg 0 bytes over WIFI.

I'm experiencing the same issue described above on v2.1.0.0 I happen to also have another machine running V2.0.0.0 and the wireless transfer works ok. Details:

Nikon D750 in wireless mode

V2.1.0.0 running Dell XPS Windows 10: Take a picture, status bar seems to show progress for a download, but then blank image.
V2.0.0.0 running on Dell Inspiron Windows 10: Take picture, status bar shows progress, image is downloaded fine.

For what it's worth a minor complaint on V2.0.0.0 is that the software intermittently disconnects from the camera when in wireless mode. I have not narrowed this down yet to a possible intermittent wireless connection or the software, but it happens pretty consistently the first 1 or 2 times I connect to the camera. After one or two disconnects, the software runs stable and connected for the whole session (2 to 3 hours at a time)

Hi Duka,

Initial test results look good, images download wirelessly and display now. Multiple shots taken sequentially are successfully downloaded wirelessly.

I'm testing on a new laptop, so not sure if this plays into it, but the initial, intermittent connectivity issue I reported seems corrected also.

My perception is that scrolling from image to image in preview is slower now, but to be fair I am testing on a new machine.

Thanks for the fast turnaround on the wireless download issue.

Donated!

Best Regards,
Bill

Hi Duka,

This resolved a similar issue I had with a Nikon D7100 and WU-1a wifi dongle

Many thanks!!!

Regards,
Robert
