Files not readable

Post by jrmcmillan4221 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 5:54 pm

Using 2.0.76.1, the files that are created (jpg or nef) are not readable by any programs, including digicamcontrol. They only show as icons in digicamcontrol and programs such as Explorer. The files created by version 2.0.49.0 are readable as expected. I am using a Nikon D750. I was using wifi in my testing using both versions.

I re-tested the latest version of digicamcontrol (v2.0.76.1) today, this time both wirelessly and wired. Same results: the files that are created cannot be read by any program, including digicamcontrol. Obviously, something changed with respect to the file-creation/file-writing after v2.0.49.0.

I have now downloaded v2.1.0.0 stable version. The issue of unreadable files still exists exactly as before. One other note, since this started happening, I've noticed that the file extension is ".nef" versus ".NEF". I don't know if that means anything, but the files remain unreadable since 2.0.49.0.

Whether .jpg or .nef, the file size is 0. It acts like it is downloading (meaning the status bar works as it is downloading) but the file size is 0.

I just figured it out. In the settings, there is an option for Canon files checked by default. Unchecking it solved the problem!

jrmcmillan4221 Maybe you can help. I am having the same problem with ver. 2.1. I capture images but they do not show up in preview, file size is 0, they will not open period. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and same issue. I also cleaned the registry file of all enteries after unistalling. I rolled back to ver. 2.0.49 and everything works fine.

I'm using a Windows 10 machine.

Then I found your post and tried your fix, but I'm not sure that I'm unchecking the correct item. When you say that " In the settings, there is an option for Canon files checked by default. Unchecking it solved the problem!" are you talking about the "Load Cannon transfer mode?" I tried that and it did not work. Is there another place that I should be looking or is there another setting that has to be chnged along with the Cannon transfer setting?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

jdiaz998,

Sorry, I just saw your post. Yes, unchecking the "Load Cannon transfer mode" is all I did. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I closed, then restarted digiCamContol, but that's it. I'm using a Windows 10 machine also.
