Assistance in connecting Camera to Digicam control software

Hi ! i have a Nikon D40 DSLR and a Nikon Coolpix P900 camera and i was trying to connect the cameras to digicam control software. but every time i connect , the computer by default opens up the photo folder in the camera and i am unable to connect to the camera through the software. please assist me...
