Sony DSLR as webcam

Hi there
I am using my Son EOS 600D and set it up as per instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTCHnbRt7YE&t=253s
It recognises the camera but it is very slow/jumpy. Any ideas why this would be? Do I need a Camlink?
